Institute Acronyms
APP
The Advanced Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Program is a two year clinical training program for mental health professionals. The Institute offers a similar program for therapists working with children and adolescents - hence CAPP (Child and Adolescent Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Program.)
CDP
The Child Development Program is a two year program offering an in-depth understanding of the inner world of children for teachers, day care directors, and others who work directly with children.
Candidate
This term refers to students in the analytic programs whether they are currently in class or "Advanced" ie no longer taking classes but not yet graduated. Candidates might be taking adult training or child training.
"Accelerated" Child Candidates
This refers to a national pilot project we participate in. Instead of the "traditional" approach which starts with adult training, "accelerated" candidates may now focus on child analysis from the beginning.
Chair of the EC
This refers to the Education Committee that has responsibility for all the educational aspects of the Institute.
CE
Depending on the context, this can refer to "Continuing Education" or the committee that plans it - the Community Education Committee.
The American
The American Psychoanalytic Association is our national accrediting body.
BOPS
The Board of Professional Standards is the committee of "The American" responsible for accreditation of Institutes and individual analysts.
The Society
The St Louis Psychoanalytic Society is separate "membership organization" for analysts that provides a variety of seminars and study groups. Events are open to the public.
