In 1981, the St. Louis Psychoanalytic Institute launched the Advanced Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Program for mental health professionals. The APP program provides a combination of didactic classroom material along with twice weekly supervision groups This affords each student an exceptional opportunity to apply theory to clinical work, and, also, greatly facilitates their evolution as a psychotherapists. The American Psychoanalytic Association describes the program as "a model for psychoanalytic institutes across the country."

Program Participants Say: "The strong grounding in theory and technique has increased my skill and confidence as a therapist. As I attempt to understand my clients, I can now think in terms of their maturational development, drives, defenses, ego development, and relationship to self and others. I feel free to allow the therapeutic process to unfold, and the process is richer and deeper for both my clients and myself."
Ellen S. Becker , M.S.W., L.C.S.W., Psychotherapist, Women Support and Community Services

"The APP Program was an enormously valuable and positive learning experience; the didactic readings, and supervision were all superb. The program has informed all aspects of my patient care and has clearly made me a better physician for my patients."
Linda Horne (91), M.D., Psychiatric Consultant, Care & Counseling
